Minor 7th by Ear

10 semitones — and 3 other distances waiting to be named instead.

The interval drill loads here.

The minor 7th is 10 semitones across. Sung or played, it is one of thirteen answers, and the reason it stays hard is that 3 distances sit close enough to steal it: major 2nd, major 6th and major 7th. Turn it upside down and the same two notes come back as the major 2nd, which is why that one belongs on the list.

Confusion setmajor 2nd · major 6th · major 7th — drill it against these, never on its own. Once it is solid you will start hearing it inside dominant 7th, minor 7th and half-diminished 7th, which is where the chord rounds pick it up.
